Back to School Stressors

What if my kid doesn’t eat anything at school?

When clients come to us, one big concern is that their kid won’t eat at school or eat very little.

That is extremely stressful for parents, as parents we want to ensure our child is getting proper nutrition for them to be successful in the classroom.

If this sounds like your child, we recommend you front-load and back-load their nutrition. Give them lots of nutritious foods for breakfast, after-school snacks and dinner.

We strongly encourage you to ditch cereals, syrups, any cookies and cakes at breakfast time. The research shows that kids on a high-sugar diet, especially in the morning, lead to emotional dysregulation, difficulties with learning, and sleep issues.

We promote a breakfast high in protein + fibre, this gives your child the fuel they need to be physically active, stay alert and regulate their emotions.

However, this is a short-term strategy; if your child needs to learn to eat more nutritious foods and to eat in different environments, we recommend you connect with us to learn more about how we can help.
